Giving Back to Our Community

Brendan O'Toole of Anheuser-Busch shares his team's LIVE UNITED DAY Story below. Brendan is a member of United Way of Northwest Arkansas' Resource Advisory Cabinet and young philanthropists group Generation GIVE. This was the first year for Anheuser Busch to express their passion for the community through participating in LIVE UNITED Day!

Anheuser-Busch has a longstanding relationship with the United Way at the corporate level. Our Anheuser-Busch Walmart Team based in Bentonville has been trying to identify opportunities to become more involved with United Way at the local level as well. During December 2009, we worked with the United Way and the Boys & Girls Club of Bentonville to adopt a family for the holidays. When I found out about LIVE UNITED Day, the entire office was eager to support the cause.

Our team of 15 spent the afternoon volunteering at the Boys & Girls Club in Bella Vista. When we arrived, Boys & Girls Club staff provided us with some background information about the location. The Boys & Girls Club works in partnership with family and community to commit to provide programs, services, and facilities to enable and inspire youth to realize their full potential. Their vision is healthy children who complete school on time, make positive life choices, and live in supportive families. The Boys & Girls Club of Benton County, which includes the Bella Vista location, will serve over 3,500 children this year.

Our volunteer activities included cleaning, painting, yard work, and preparing meals for the children. It was amazing how much the team was able to accomplish for the Boys & Girls Club during just an afternoon. The most rewarding part was the children’s reaction to the changes when they arrived at the end of the day. LIVE UNITED Day presented an excellent opportunity for us to give back to our community and everyone had a great time volunteering.
